Cold pressed handmade soaps need just a bit more care than regular soaps!
Since the main ingredients of cold pressed soaps are plant oil, plant butter, water, and sodium hydroxide, it doesn't have any chemical hardening agent to help cold pressed soaps to stay-in-shape. Once upon a time, I did a test on how long does it take a soap to melt in water by comparing a slice of Chloemason soap vs. a store bought soap, the Chloemason soap melted less than 8 hours. The slice of testing soap was rather small, maybe about 1 oz or so, and both slices were covered completely under tap water in a plastic take-out tray. So what is the best way to preserve a cold pressed soap? First and for most, keep it dry by using a soap deck! The cold pressed soaps has the tendency to attract moisture due to its own unique chemistry. The natural glycerine in cold pressed soaps is a super humectant by-product, so keep the soap bar on a well ventilated soap dish is a most. This will help your soap bar dry faster and last longer. Additionally, keep it out of the water! I have many moms visit me lately and shared on how much their little ones LOVE to play with the soap in the tub, and POOF... the soap lost 1/3 of its size after one wash. Unfortunately, the cold pressed soaps melts quickly in the water. So it is best to use and leave the soap out of the water. You can cut the soap too! All soaps from Chloemason can be cut... and... cut as you are using them. Just take a kitchen knife and slice them in to 1/2 inches slices. This is also a great way to take a "travel size" soap bar with you. Use a loofah or a soap mesh. Loofah and soap mesh are great accessory in the shower. They are not only great exfoliating tools, but also helps your soap to generate more bubbles. The soap mesh at Chloemason has a small pocket, so you can use every last bit of small pieces of your favorite soap. Hope these information are helpful! Yes! Me Here! Dry skin definitely hits my household especially on Mason and me. Many times, eczema kicked off with a very dry, red, itchy patch of skin. It gets worse when the weather is cold, low moisture, and after we turn on the heat in the house. In the past ( and this is long before I start learning about soap making ), I have always get a big bottle of lotion off the shelf and goes through it with in the matter of two weeks. It feels 'moisturized' at the begging, but soon after and through out the day, I have to reapply lotion multiple times. Little did I know that lotions are typically made with 70% water and it does not keep my skin 'hydrated'. This year, Chloemason has re-introduced and bring the new products for winter skin survival: Avocado Body Balm, Avocado Body Whip, Deep Moisturizing Lotion Stick, Aloe Vera Healing Cream, and Raw-Shea & Hemp Anti-Aging Butter. ALL of these products are WATER FREE. They are consider self-preserved products where there are no interference of extra chemicals and preservatives to assist the product stay fresh. Since our skin absorbs everything we applied, these products are not only keep your skin stay moisturized, it also helps to recover from the daily harsh environment and generate the new. For example, many of the customers who have purchased Raw-Shea & Hemp Anti-Aging Butter recently shared some excellent reviews: "This is the best facial moisturizer I’ve tried.
